Gordiola, traditional artistic handmade glass (Majorca)
A visit to Gordiola and its museum in the centre of Majorca is a visit to a cabinet of wonders!
This centuries-old artistic tradition has been cultivated since late 18th century
in the glass furnaces that the Gordiola family started in Majorca.
Over the years and with successive generations, master glassmakers and artisans have created
pieces for the firm's huge catalogue, some are now part of the museum's collection.
Each piece is unique none are identical, as they are all handmade.

Mediterranean garden hotel in winter
During past holidays and when visiting part of the family in the South of Spain I was
invited to this wonderful place called Casa de los Bates for an afternoon tea. It was
built in the nineteenth century as an estate and with Italian inspiration, it was meant
to be the home for a family.
The hotel is located in a hill overlooking the Mediterranean tropical coast of Granada,
and has been restored to maintain its origins. Time past and the building and gardens
were transformed into a boutique rural hotel, and is run by some members of my
in-law family, which were very happy to show us around.
The gardens surrounding the house show also the moorish influence both in their
design and use of plants and trees to organize the different sections. Fountains and
water features help creating relaxing cool areas, as a refuge in hot summer days.
It was a very mild weather on the first day of the new year, so we had an afternoon
tea and pastries seating by the front porch area.

Xmas decorations findings
Last weekend I went to do some shopping for Xmas decoration, just new small touches
that I like to ad what I am collecting over the years. Since this is gong to be my first
Xmas in Madrid since many, many years, all is new and in my searching I found
Federica & Co, a nice concept with small shops hidden in a "cour" that offer
the spirit I like. I loved the fresh smell of pine trees!
A Mediterranean hotel & gardens
La Reserva Rotana is a rural boutique hotel in Majorca. the estate dates back almost
300 hundred years, and some 30 years ago was converted into a hotel. Many parts of
the estate are still working as a farm, with vineyards producing wines to be served in
the restaurant. The resort manages to preserve the style of the authentic Majorcan
rural landscape and the gardens are kept to harmonize with the surroundings.
Delicate floral arrangement
Floral arrangements can be very elaborated, but sometimes going
minimalistic can perform perfectly. These two examples from a wedding
cocktail's tables show that subtle but very summery tones, work really well
together. The roses were cut early in the morning from the estate gardens
to match the color palette of decoration.
Exquisite magnolia
Last week I was attending an event at Siobhan Dance Studio in South London, and at
the front entrance I enjoyed the sight of a young Magnolia stellata that seats on a pot.
I love the pictorial quality of the tree and magnolia buds and open flowers.
The spirit of Xmas decoration
I know it is already past, but I always love to have the green
and colorful ornaments of Xmas decoration in my mind,
